| Your training to obtain a Private Pilot Certificate
will consist of ground school training, flight training in tandem with
your Certified Instructor (dual-instruction), and solo flight. You will
be required to pass an FAA written test, and a practical test with a Designated
Pilot Examiner (the check ride).
The length of time and cost to complete your course is dependent on the time you are able to commit to the project. A student who flies regularly, at least twice a week, and studies diligently will complete the course rapidly, and at a lower expense. The FAA minimum training for a Private Pilot (Part
61) is 40 hours of flight. The national average is 55 hours of flight.
Using a Cessna 150, this puts the cost range from $4500 to $6000.
Learning to fly is not inexpensive, but will provide you with a sense of
accomplishment and many great opportunities.
